How does the skincare specialist balance the competing needs of patients, employer and other staff, in today’s busy medical practice in challenging economic times? Sometimes, meeting the needs of everyone involved can be frustrating and may affect patient satisfaction. This presentation will provide information about keeping balance in competing needs and protecting your value.

                                            Healthy Skin 360

The stratum corneum plays a crucial role as a water impermeable skin barrier. After acute damage, it recovers automatically, but with aging, psychological or oxidative stress, the recovery is delayed. We will discuss the cyclical keys to a healthy skin barrier: cleansing, exfoliating, nourishing, moisturizing and protecting.

At the end of the presentation the SkinCare Specialist will be able to:

  1. Explain how healthy skin begins with a healthy skin barrier.
  2. List and describe the cycle necessary for a healthy skin barrier.
  3. Discuss skincare specialist’s role in providing skin treatments for a healthy skin.

Acne is a major source of frustration for patients, and each case is as varied as the patient. By identifying the main causes, role of hormones, and stress in the development and severity of breakouts, the skincare specialist will be able to design comprehensive treatment plans that cater to the individual cutaneous needs of each patient. 

At the end of the presentation the SkinCare Specialist will be able to:

  1. Discuss the typical pathology of acne, as well as the potential role of hormones and external factors.
  2. Identify topical ingredients proven to counteract the internal causes of acne.
  3. List examples of comprehensive daily care and in-office treatment plans for multiple acne cases.

Well crafted and planned special events and educational forums can drive new patients, help retain current patients and promote referrals. These kinds of events take the mystery out of your services, and provide a friendly and welcoming “low risk” opportunity for potential patients to learn about you. This presentation will cover the seven keys to planning and promoting a successful event to build your esthetic practice.

At the end of the presentation the SkinCare Specialist will be able to:

  1. List the three “Ps” of a successful a special event/educational event.
  2. Describe two reasons why potential patients resonate with educational seminars.
  3. Identify at least two potential partners who can bring value to a special event/education

This presentation will compare the differences and similarities of word-of-mouth and traditional advertising versus social media networking. It will examine the value of a live web presence as a practical, economical and measurable tool for encouraging new patients. By fortifying trust in your established practice, it will be demonstrated how an office can distinguish itself on the World Wide Web and sustain and increase it’s practice through honesty and professionalism.

  1. Compare and contrast social media and traditional advertising.
  2. Separate your practice from the competition.
  3. Identify how the web translates to new procedures and sales.

Consumers are aware, and will ask the skincare specialist the benefits and concerns of using these ingredients and products. The role of the skincare specialists in pre and post laser care is often essential to the success of the treatment itself. Understanding the patient concerns and educating them on how to best care for their skin and condition is paramount. Skin treatments intra- laser can be helpful for a number of dermatologic treatments and requires evaluation and planning with the physician’s treatment.

Acidic Chemical Peels for Treating Melasma
Contrary to popular belief, not all chemical peeling agents work by inducing skin injury. We will review the chemistry of commonly used peeling agents, and categorize them according to mechanism of action. Selection of the appropriate chemical peeling agent depending on patient’s skin type and dermatologic indication or higher Fitzpatrick types who were considered untreatable, may become candidates for peels that are effective in treating acne, melasma and generalized photoaging.

Acne Update–New Concepts and Challenges

Acne remains a teenager’s worse four letter word. We will debunk the acne myths and establish that acne is genetic. Initial treatment is topical and consists of benzoyl peroxide cleaners, alpha hydroxyl toners and vitamin A conditioning lotions. Boosters may include acne surgery, chemical peels, oral antibiotics or isotretinoin. New therapies such as LED lights and Fraxel will discussed.
